Everything about testing Barely Zipped in one place: what is new, what to try, what we already know about, what we are building, and a board for your ideas.
Thank you for being here this early. Barely Zipped is being built in the open, with you. It is free, and it always will be — down the road there will be optional perks for people who want to support the site, but nothing you can do here today will ever go behind a paywall. The fastest way to make it better is telling us what works, what breaks, and what you wish it did.
These are the things we most need checked right now. Try one, then tell us how it went: Works, Broken, or a Suggestion. Once you answer, it leaves your list. When we add something new, it shows up here.
Things we already know are broken or unfinished. No need to report these; if you find something that is not here, that is the useful kind.
What we are building now and what is next. Popular ideas from the Idea Corner end up here.
Everybody can see it and vote it up or down. The most popular ideas rise to the top, and we read every one.
Everything on Barely Zipped, what it does, and why it is built the way it is.
Your member status, such as Newcomer or Regular, comes from your lifetime earned points. Your available points are yours to spend in the store. Some features also require trust standing, earned through verification, vouches and participation.
A currency, and only that. Earned by taking part, spent in the Points Store on rings, flair and stickers. Points are not a status and do not unlock anything — nothing bought with them gives anybody power over anybody else.
Most things are worth a point. Winning the weekly contest is worth twenty-five.
One score out of 100, shown on every profile. It is what decides your daily limits and which features you can reach, and members can use it in their privacy settings to choose who sees them. Verification, a background check, vouches and taking part raise it. Points have nothing to do with it, in either direction.
Trusted and Pillar also ask for photo verification and a minimum account age, so the score alone does not get you there.
Members can also use trust standing in their privacy settings to choose who can see them.
Heavier than almost anything that raises it, on purpose: weeks to build, one bad week to lose.
When you vouch for somebody you put your own standing behind them. If they turn out to be a problem and get removed, you lose roughly twice what the vouch was worth. That is what stops vouches being handed out so freely they mean nothing.
It is also how clubs get founded: somebody proposes one, invites people, and those people vouch for it. Nothing reaches staff until enough of them have.
Broke, confusing, missing, or good? Tell us. Short and specific beats polite and vague: “the search box filled itself with my email” is worth more than “search seemed off”. Only you and staff can read what you send.
