Draft, under legal review
This is a working draft. It is being reviewed by an attorney before Barely Zipped opens to the public. The rules below are what we intend to enforce, and we will enforce them from day one either way.

The principle

This community holds unusually sensitive information about people. We collect as little as we can, show it to as few people as possible, and default everything to private.

What we collect

Your date of birth never leaves our database

It is stored so we can enforce the age rule, and it is never shown to anyone. Other members can only ever see a computed age, and only if you choose to display it.

Photo metadata is stripped

Photos routinely carry GPS coordinates, timestamps and camera identifiers. We remove that data on upload, before the file is stored. A single un-stripped photo can publish your home address.

Who sees what

Every photo, album, writing and profile field carries its own visibility setting: public, members, followers, friends, or nobody. Nothing on Barely Zipped is visible without an account. These rules are enforced by the database itself, not just hidden in the interface.

Private messages

Staff cannot read your private messages. That restriction is enforced in our access rules, not by policy alone. Staff can only see a message if it reaches them through a report.

Verification photos

Used once to confirm the badge, visible only to staff, then deleted. We keep the decision, not the image.

What we never do

Your control

Law enforcement

We respond to valid legal process. We report child sexual abuse material to NCMEC as required by law. We do not hand over member data on request without it.
